Gulf Aircraft & Engineering Services (GAES) launched its first Solar-Powered EV Charging Station in Sharjah, in a ceremony inaugurated by His Excellency Sheikh Khalid Bin Isam Al Qassimi, Chairman of the Department of Civil Aviation in Sharjah, together with distinguished VIP guests.
Located within Sharjah’s growing aviation ecosystem, the fully o -grid charging station supports the emirate’s drive toward low-carbon operations and aligns with the UAE’s broader Net Zero 2050 vision. The project features a 52.65 kWp solar array with 90 high-e iciency panels, a 215 kWh battery storage system, and two 22 kW AC EV chargers. It also incorporates a waterless automatic solar panel cleaning robot and a Fusion Solar Data Logger for smart monitoring and peak e iciency.
Expected to produce approximately 85,000 kWh of clean energy annually, the system will reduce 69 metric tons of CO₂ emissions and o set the equivalent of 22 tonnes of jet fuel consumption. The initiative reinforces GAES’s active participation in Airport Carbon Accreditation and highlights Sharjah’s leadership in championing practical, impactful sustainability measures within the aviation sector.
The charging station serves as a pilot project that can be expanded across additional zones of Sharjah’s aviation environment, where sustainable and resilient infrastructure will play an increasing role in future operations.
Representatives from GAES highlighted that the initiative marks a new stage in the company’s development in Sharjah, as it continues integrating modern technological solutions and expanding its contribution to environmentally responsible operations. GAES is also preparing further sustainability-oriented projects.
This inauguration marks a significant milestone for GAES and the Emirate of Sharjah, demonstrating a shared commitment to renewable energy adoption, carbon reduction, and environmentally responsible operations. It reflects a shared focus between the Department of Civil Aviation in Sharjah, Sharjah Airport, GAES and industry stakeholders on long-term development, innovation, and practical environmental improvements within the aviation sector.
